Prof Pradeep Kumar Mishra is former head of the Department of Chemical Engineering and dean of students affairs at IIT (BHU) Varanasi. He holds Bachelor degree in Chemical Engineering from IIT Roorkee, Masters from IIT Bombay and PhD from IIT (BHU) Varanasi. After brief instinct in Industries Prof Mishra joined teaching at IIT BHU Varanasi in January 1997. He has been placed to HAG scale in 2016 recognizing his academic and R&D contributions. Prof Mishra has published more than 100 papers in reputedjournals and filed 5 patents. He has authored/edited more than dozen books and contributed scores of chapters in books/encyclopaedias. He has also successfully completed sponsored research project and consultancy worth more than 20 crores. He got the funding from Department of Science &Technology, National Science &Technology Entrepreneurship Development Board, All India Council for Technical Education, Uttar Pradesh Council of Science &Technology, Ministry of Electronics, UP Government, Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium scale Enterprises, Central Pollution Control Board and Northern Coal Fields Limited, Singrauli etc.
Prof P K Mishra is actively contributing to the area of Bioenergy and wastewater treatment in addition to biocompatible materials. Looking to his expertise in the area of wastewater and effluent treatment processes, he was appointed Chairman to the committee for formulation of disposal standard to textile industries. He has also been members to two other important committees, which formulated charters for Distilleries and Sugar Industries. Prof P K Mishra and his team at IIT (BHU) Varanasi has been engaged by CPCB for monitoring of majority of GPIS at Ganga Basin from lastthree successive seasons of 2017, 2018 & 2019 and monitored up to 321 industries. UPPCB and JSPCB have also engaged Prof Mishra and his team for various monitoring and sampling work in Uttar Pradesh and Jharkhand. Recently NMCG has also requested for his services as expert for monitoring the treatment of drains being done as third party. He has also been designated as expert in Waste NAMA project by TERI. Currently he has also been entrusted with the responsibility of monitoring 48 drains up to Farukhabad and Lakhimpurkhiri districts of the state.
In addition to his technical contribution Prof P K Mishra has been pioneer in the field of Innovation, Incubation and Entrepreneurship in Eastern UP and established first Incubator (Malviya Centre for Innovation Incubation and Entrepreneurship) at Banaras Hindu University in 2008, which is the part of IIT (BHU) Varanasi now. He is also coordinating the activities of CISCO ThinQubator in association with CISCO and NASSCOM in the area of Artificial Intelligence, Internet of Things and Machine Learning. He is coordinator to RKVY- RAFTAAR scheme of Ministry of Agriculture, Government of India for promotion of Agri-entrepreneurship in Uttar Pradesh. IIT (BHU) has appointed him as the Nodal Person for execution of MOU being signed between IIT (BHU) and NCL, Singrauli.
Prof Mishra has been decorated with various awards/honours, prominent of them are Dr. V. G. Patel Memorial Award 2020 for Entrepreneurship Trainer/Educator/Mentor (Cash Price-1 Lakh), Dr Shirin Gadhia MemorialSustainability Award, 2017, 2nd National Prize for book writing in Hindi by Min of Renewable Energy, GOI and DST Lockheed Nomination for Technology Commercialization for 2010 and 2012. He is member board of governors of NISBUD, Min of Skill Development and Children Emancipation Society UK. He has also represented a delegation to Germany on the invitation of German Biogas Association on behalf of Indian Biogas Association. Professor Mishra has also been selected for prestigious Leadership of Academicians Program and successfully completed it at IIT (BHU) and Pen State University, USA in March-April’ 2019. He has also been appointed as Co-Coordinator for 2nd LEAP being organized by the institute in collaboration with Cambridge University, UK. Prof. Mishra has delivered over 100 invited talks in the area of Environment, Energy, Entrepreneurship and Motivation in addition to various field of Chemical Engineering at various forums including Institutions of eminence.
Prof P K Mishra has organized over 50 Conferences/Seminars/Workshops and numerous training programs/summer schools in the area of Energy/Environment/Entrepreneurship and Business development. Prof P K Mishra is also helping Municipal Corporation and Jal Nigam by organizing training programs in association with JAICA. Local MSMEs are also being benefited with the timely suggestion and consultancy of Dr P K Mishra. Prof Mishra and his group is also working for the preservation of the culture of Varanasi through digitization as web (www.kashikatha.com) and organizing workshops.
